5 Ways To Start 2021 On The Right Foot
We’re so happy to FINALLY put 2020 behind us! This year, we’re focused on channeling positive energy into personal health and happiness, because too often we put ourselves behind work, family, social media, etc. Aligned with the common “new year, new me” mantra that usually dominates the first few weeks of each new year, Purecane™’s gathered 5 new year’s resolutions that are both attainable and sustainable. Rather than firing all cylinders on resolutions that you know won’t last through March, making little adjustments to your daily routine that are super easy will pay off in the long run, and cause minimal stress while doing so. Here’s to a happy and healthy 2021!
This doesn’t necessarily mean getting a personal trainer and hitting the gym 6 days a week (unless that’s your thing!). Something as simple as living room pilates classes on YouTube, or taking a morning walk before work each day can boost your energy, improve your mood, help you sleep, and help you complete your fitness goals. So find your favorite motivating podcast or music, grab your mask, and get out there and seize the day!
2. Drink Water
While the common recommendation of daily water intake is 64 oz., let’s be real...it’s hard to get all that water in if you’re not actively on top of it. Did you know if you monitor how much water you drink for just 18 days to make sure you get in all 8 glasses, it may become a habit that you no longer have to actively think about? Proper hydration affects physical performance, your overall energy levels, brain function, helps prevent and treat headaches, and can help aid in weight loss (if that is a personal goal). Whether you prefer a Hydro Flask covered in stickers, a water bottle with time markers that help you pace your water intake, or you just like to do it the old-fashioned way, you can’t go wrong by drinking a little more water (and have some fun while doing it!).
3. Eliminate or Reduce Sugar
We get it. It’s really hard to completely eliminate sugar from your diet because it’s in almost everything we buy at the grocery store. If you are choosing to eliminate or reduce sugar in 2021 due to a health concern like diabetes, a restrictive diet like keto, kosher, halal, vegan, or vegetarian, or if you just simply want to, Purecane™ zero-calorie, all-natural sugar substitute is your new best friend. After testing thousands of yeast strains, we found one that combines with sugarcane to produce a sweet, calorie-free ingredient called Reb M in nature. You can substitute Purecane™ for sugar in absolutely anything you make or drink, and you won’t taste the difference. Check out our recipe page to see the endless ways you can start satisfying your sweet tooth, while also staying healthy.

4. Get 8 Hours of Sleep!
Instead of bingeing your favorite new Netflix show until 1am every night, either set a timer so you know when to shut it down, or pick up a new book to read in bed. Tuning in to the bright lights on your devices increases your alertness right before bed, keeping you stimulated and absorbed into the technology way past your usual bedtime. Using phones or computers before bed also makes it more difficult to fall asleep once you do finally close your eyes. Journaling, reading books, or listening to a calming podcast can all promote an earlier bedtime and more deep, restful sleep. Getting a full 8 hours every night can boost your immune system, prevent weight gain, strengthen your heart, and improve your mood and productivity. So shut off those notifications, turn your phone face down, break out those relaxing essential oils, and sleep!
5. Check in with Family and Friends!
2020 was tough on everyone and it’s likely that improvements on COVID-19 prevention and treatment will be slow in 2021. From a nice comment on an Instagram post or a weekly text to Mom, to a surprise birthday Zoom or leaving a warm meal on a neighbor’s doorstep, a little thought can go a long way. Regularly checking in with loved ones is a gift that keeps on giving. Put good in, get good out. Like we said earlier, 2021 is all about personal health and happiness, and that starts with generating some good karma!
